This Mortal Coil

This week I went to the funeral of a close friend.
This is the 4th funeral in the last 16 months or so.

She was 25.

She was one of the most generous people I have ever known.
She was very much about making other's happy.
A free spirit, a little bit punk rock, a little bit gangsta.
She was very much about 'fuck the system' and not focusing on material things.
She was a soldier.
She was one of those types that, even if broke, always found a way to make shit happen.
And when she did have money, she spent it on her friends.
She partied like no one I have ever known.
She was a blessing.

Take the time to realize that most of the shit we stress about in this life is petty bullshit that doesn't matter in the big picture. Take a breath. Smell the flowers. Feel the grass between your toes. Call a friend you haven't spoken to in a minute, but keep meaning to. Just live. Even if just for a fleeting moment.

Peace.

Rest in Peace Greg.
Rest in Peace Ninong.
Rest in Peace Nikki.
Rest in Peace Shauna.

To all those we have lost.
Cheers.
You will not be forgotten.
And you are dearly missed.

Dumhi - I Am Dumhi

I guess it's appropriate that Dumhi has a member named Shameless Plug, because that is exactly what today's blog is all about. Dumhi has released this free mix cd, which gives a taste of their two previous releases (Vote Dumhi, They Call Me Bruce) as well as songs from their upcoming album (3 Seats From Heaven).

Dumhi kicks off a year chock full of new material with this free mix, in hopes of boosting the momentum of their growing fanbase. Besides 3 Seats From Heaven, due out this Spring, Dumhi also plans to release another free mix, tentatively entitled I Am Dumhi Vol. 2, as well as another EP of new material, tentatively entitled Bloodkin, and lastly another free mix CD Insightclopedia Spittanica, all before 2007 is said and done.

GET IT HERE.

So...
Download it.

Hallelujah Hollaback.

Ok, at the risk of sounding like a biter, I just wanted to share with you something Buckshot Defunct said on Okayplayer regarding the brilliant VH1 satire "The White Rapper Show." First let me give extra daps to Buckshot Defunct for his hilarious comicstrip tribute to the internet phenomenon that was the anticipation for the movie "Snakes on a Plane." The strip can be read HERE.

In regards to the show's most entertaining character, John Brown, Buckshot says this:

"I think you underestimate the Ghetto Revival."

"Irony sells. And this goofy white guy's complete lack of substance is exactly what makes him substantial. I mean, a lot of rappers lack substance, but this guy is the anti-substance. In fact, if he were ever to come in contact with real actual substance, the universe might implode on itself. Fortunately for us all he bunks with Jus Rhyme.

From his nonsensical catchphrases to his mind numbing cadence, John Brown is a walking talking commentary on the mass media mindfuck. He says words that sound vaguely familiar but have no meaning. He repeats them ad nauseum until they are imprinted on our hive mind. He takes vague shots at the 'establishment' without making any sort of real statement of his own. His cadence, not unlike a tribal drum, slowly drills into the depths of our primal minds, manipulating our senses on a level that is almost Pavlovian.

John Brown is the culmination of decades of excess and nihilism, magnified to absurd levels of dadaist proportions. He's beyond the realm of hip hop right now. He is performance art."

I couldn't have said it better myself.
So I didn't.
I just cut and pasted that shit.
But I gave credit due, so it's all peace.
John Brown is taking the show's prize, Son.
I'm placing my bet.

Now to at least give you a lil suh'n suh'n that you might not have already seen.
Here is a new music video from the one and only King of the Burbs.

Rage Against the Machine - Year of the Boomerang (Live 1994)

Since I am not going to able to make Coachella this year and see the long anticipated return of RATM, i decided to share with the internets a live bootleg from a show in 1994. I was lucky enough to see RATM twice during the touring period of their debut album: once at Lollapalooza and once at the American Theater in St. Louis along with Stanford Prison Experiement. Both times they completely kicked my ass. If you are anywhere within a day's drive of Coachella, I urge you to go see these cats before there are no more chances left.

This album is not one of the aforementioned shows.
But it will have to do.

Once you get a taste, you'll understand why.

And to top it off, they're Japanese. Asians are slowly taking over the world, y'all. Ya heard?

So I finally found a purpose.....

Since I rarely use this blog as any sort of diary or real place to put my thoughts down, I finally figured out what to do with this little piece of internet real estate. It's nothing really that original or groundbreaking, but it will hopefully, at the very least, be practical.

What else do you use the internet for?
Free shit.

So strap on your eye patch and upgrade your bandwith.

Not only do you get the half-wit musings of yet another internet denizen to immediately forget once read, but as a bonus you will also get....

wait for it...

here it comes...

just a little longer...

FREE MUSIC.

Yeah.
Woohoo.

Ok.

Let's get on with it.

thank you. come again.
